At all past Canstructions we have been honored to receive awards for our structures. In 2009 RJC received the top award – ‘Juror’s Favorite’ – for our Wall-E structure, who was ‘cleaning up’ hunger! Last year’s “Hope Diamond” structure received an Honorable Mention. During the 2002 event, James was interviewed by KUSI TV station and our structure and Team Board were shown throughout their broadcast. During the 2006 event, our Team was asked to rebuild the structure live on KUSI's morning broadcast, again our Team Board was prominently displayed!

Thank you to our sponsors for your generous support of our efforts to participate in this year's Canstruction event.

The 2006 event has raised over 50,000 pounds of food to help feed hungry San Diego families.  We are proud to have contributed over 3,000 pound of food with our 2006 structure "A Cup of Hope".  Our structure was designed in order to honor the New Orleans victims and their determination to rebuild.

One shining example of this was Café Du Monde, which has been in business since 1862. Famous the world over for their coffee and beignets, we at RJC Architects were inspired by their ability to pull together as a team and re-open for the community just six weeks after the hurricane.  Our structure was their famous cup of coffee and a plate of beignets along with a silver spoon and some creamers.

In 2006 our structure was awarded Structural Ingenuity and was donated to Homefront San Diego which helps local military families make ends meet.  Our team was interviewed by several local TV stations, and was fortunate to be asked to rebuild our structure live on KUSI were out Team Board with our sponsors was prominently displayed!

Canstruction® combines the competitive spirit of a design/build competition with a unique way to help feed hungry people. Competing teams, lead by architects and engineers, showcase their talents by designing giant sculptures made entirely out of canned foods. At the close of the exhibitions all of the food used in the structures is donated to local food banks for distribution to pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, elderly and day care centers.
